AI Skill: Text generation
The Scenario: Chores that nobody wants to do, turned into one ongoing quest. AI wraps the boring list into a story, with each chore as a stage to complete on the way to victory.
What you need
- ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini (free versions all work fine)
- The list of chores that actually need doing
- About 5 minutes to generate the quest, however long the chores take to act out
How to do it
- Write down the chores that need doing.
- Decide whether there’s a reward at the end, totally optional but adds some motivation.
- Open the AI app and paste this prompt:
Turn the following list of chores into one overarching quest for a child to complete. The chores are: [list of chores]. The child is [age] years old and likes [child’s interests].
[Optional: The reward for finishing the whole quest is [reward].]
Write the chores as connected stages within a single ongoing story, not as separate unrelated missions – each stage should lead into the next. Keep each task description clear enough that it’s still obvious which physical chore needs to be done, even inside the story. Make sure the quest only counts as complete once every stage – every chore – is finished. Keep the language simple enough for a [age]-year-old to follow.
[Delivery style: write this to be read aloud by a parent acting as the quest-giver, OR write this as a quest scroll for the child to read themselves.]
- Read the quest to your child, or hand it over for them to read, depending on how you generated it.
- Send them off to complete each stage in order.
- Check off each stage as it’s done, and deliver the reward (if there is one) once the whole quest is complete.
Good to know
- If your child wants to negotiate the order of the stages, that’s fine. The point is all the chores get done, not the order they happen in.
- If the AI’s quest doesn’t quite fit how the chores actually work in your house, just ask it to adjust.
Take it further
- Keep a running quest log on the fridge and turn it into a recurring Saturday morning quest.
- Let an older child write the next instalment of the quest themselves once they’ve finished this one.
- Ask the AI to give the “hero” a title or rank that goes up each time a quest is completed.
