AI Skill: Text generation

The Scenario: Tonight’s dinner becomes breaking news. AI writes a funny reason why it’s newsworthy, then gives your child an intro, a set of interview questions, and an outro, ready to interview a family member on camera or into a microphone.

  • ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini (free versions all work fine)
  • A phone or tablet to record on, or just to read from live
  • A child old enough to read the script themselves
  • Someone willing to be interviewed
  1. Decide the “news story” (something small and everyday: what’s for dinner, a missing sock, who ate the last biscuit), who’s being interviewed, and your child’s age.
  2. Open the AI app and paste this prompt:
  1. Read through the script first and check the questions make sense for your household.
  2. Hand your child the intro, questions, and outro. Let them practise reading it once before recording, if recording.
  3. Record it on a phone, or just perform it live for the family.
  • Use a nickname or just “Mum” / “Dad” / “Grandad” rather than full names in the prompt – there’s no need for real names for this to work.
  • If your child struggles to read part of the script, ask the AI to simplify just that section rather than starting again.
  • Let your child invent the next news story themselves and see what the AI comes up with.
  • Encourage your child come up with their own questions.
