Training data is the large collection of text, images, or other content used to teach an AI system how to respond.

An AI model learns patterns from this data during training, before it’s ever released for people to use. This is different from a prompt, which is what you type in afterwards to get a response — training data shapes what the AI already “knows,” while a prompt shapes what it does with that in the moment.
